Calpico Wrapping Tape

Calpico polyvinyl tape is formulated to produce the best anti-corrosion pipe wrapping tape on the market today. It is a tough, all-weather tape and retains its flexibility in all types of weather. Calpico is an ideal joint tape as it conforms perfectly to irregular surfaces. It has excellent corrosion resistance coupled with high adhesion properties and flexibility which assures efficient application by machine or hand wrapping.

CALPICO - Pipe Primer #22 - Calpico is a fast drying primer especially developed to be used with Calpico PVC tapes. Calpico pipe primer may be applied by brush or spray. Coverage is 300-400 square feet per gallon.

Job Calculations

Primer Coverage = 300-400 square feet/gallon

Example:  You have 1,000 lineal feet of 6" ID x 50 foot pipe and plan on half-lapping for the greatest protection.  How much primer and squares of tape is needed for the joints and the pipe for each variation?
Solution:
PART 1: JOINTS - Calculate the tape needed for the joints using Table A. 1000 ÷ 50 = 20 joints + 2 connection joints = 22 joints. On Table A, locate 6" pipe in Column A. Read across to Column C. Divide the number of joints by the value in Column C.
PART 2: PIPE - Using Table B Find 6" in column A and move horizontally to column D.  Multiply each value by 10 (1000 lineal feet ÷ 100 = 10) to find out how much is needed; Multiply the value in Column E by 10 then divide by 300 to determine the number of gallons of primer.

  • 22 joints ÷ 7 Joints per 4" Roll = 3.14 = 4 rolls of 4" tape for joints
  • 1.984 x 10 = 19.84 = 20 rolls using 2" tape at minimum overlap of 1/2" + 2 contingency rolls = 22 Rolls
  • 1.894 x 10 = 18.94 = 19 rolls using 4" tape at minimum overlap of 1/2" + 2 contingency rolls = 21 Rolls
  • 3.472 x 10 = 34.72 = 35 rolls using 2" or 4" tape at half-lap (1" or 2") + 4 contingency rolls = 39 Rolls
  • 173.600 x 10 = 1,736; 1736 ÷ 300 = 5.78 = 6 gallons primer + 1 contingency gallon = 7 gallons

We recommend allowing 10-15% additional material for field contingencies.  Always better to have a little extra rather than come up short on the job site.
